About this deal

Canny, infuriating, cynical and generous by turns, How To Get Rich is an invaluable guide to 'the surprisingly simple art of collecting money which already has your name on it'. There's a bit of waffle to get through (but not too much) to get to the interesting bits - but once you do it is excellent stuff and hard to put down. If we were making "profits," asked the "analysts," weren't we in danger of "wasting" money that could have been invested to produce more "growth"?

The assumption that you might be able to achieve some goal if you only wished hard enough is not just a f***-up. Month after month I soldiered on, while “the new ploughed fields smelt dank as the grave; and I wished I were dead. I decided to give this one a try, however, since it was written by Felix Dennis, a man who had the foresight to purchase a major stake in the crack-like news periodical The Week, hands down my favorite magazine of all time.I recommend that anyone who has thought about becoming an entrepreneur or is simply curious on ideologies correlating with wealth, read this book. But either you control and develop such ideas or the ideas will come to dominate your waking thoughts.

While I knew nothing of computing (and still do not), the instincts honed by countless hours of shoving money into slots forewarned me of their potential. It will help you accelerate your learning, solve hard problems, and save time by giving you access to a growing digital collection of insights from timeless books.

But before dealing with each in turn, let me digress for a moment regarding upbringing , race , colour , educational qualifications and gender . There are a few daft pages notably those that lay into Steve Jobs, which, valid as the criticism is, don't fit the book as Jobs for all his mistakes is nine times richer than the author and seven years younger. It’s the methodology employers use to shackle useful employees to their desks without having to pay them too much. The more bold you are, the better chance you have of getting in on the ground floor and confounding the odds. New or rapidly developing industries, whether glamorous or not, very often provide more opportunities to get rich than established sectors.

If you are not prepared to work longer hours than almost anyone you know, despite the jibes of colleagues and friends, you are unlikely to get rich. If I were writing a book about how to be happy, then I would recommend much to you along the same lines. Instead of rushing to where the money was, I kept on digging in the relatively poor pit of ink-on-paper until the money, reluctantly, came to me… If you wish to become rich, look carefully about you at the prevailing industries where wealth appears to be gravitating.

In hindsight, it’s clear that everything he did to amass wealth came at the expense of many things, most importantly, the finite time that he had in life.

The problem is that we create an image of ourselves in our childhood and youth (often at the urging of parents, siblings or friends), and subsequently attempt to graft reality onto this image. Some of it is practical - such as how he handled the 4 employees who politely threatened to leave his firm and start a competing company if he didn't give them a quarter of his equity, or the rules he requires all board members to adhere to. This is the best book I have read about how to acquire wealth; the pitfalls, the obstacles to avoid, the mistakes people make and the never give up spirit espoused by Wnston Churchill. If you are a poor negotiator, then set a limit on what you will pay or accept and on any conditions attached. Primarily concerned with the step-by-step creation of wealth, it ruthlessly dissects the business failures and financial triumphs of 'a South London lad who became rich virtually by accident'.
